Life Coach vs. Counselor

Understanding the Differences between Life Coaching and Counselling

Let me start by saying that I’m an avid fan of both. I have personally worked with compassionate counselors and empowering life coaches. They have made a huge impact on my life, and I will be forever grateful to them. There are similarities and differences between coaches and counselors, including the fact that they are generally offered by highly caring individuals and both aim to improve people’s well-being.

When a person is feeling helpless, hopeless, struggling with mental health, or needs access to specific resources that are sometimes clinical, counselors are great listeners. Counselors may provide services such as individual counseling, family counseling, relationship counseling, addiction counseling, grief counseling, etc. Individuals suffering from depression, PTSD, or other mental illnesses might benefit from their services. To provide treatment and mental health care, counselors must meet certain educational and licensing requirements.

In Canada, hopefulness is declining, according to Statistics Canada https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/220517/dq220517d-eng.htm.

Counselors and Life Coaches form a valuable cross-functional team

My goal as a Coach is to help people before a person reaches a point of despair and prevent further mental health crises from developing.

Coaching is an action-based process. In coaching, goals are achieved, behavior is changed, perspectives are shifted, and overall improvement and development are realized. For yourself, your loved ones, or your organization, it may be offered individually or in a group setting. Life Coaches are excellent listeners, but they are also teachers and strategists first and foremost.

Life Coaches are not there to give you advice or treatment.

Ensure that the Life Coach you choose is well-certified and recommended. As a Professional Coach, I help you get unstuck and help you help yourself. With my support, you’ll be able to make new choices based on learning to listen to your best self. I will provide you with ideas that involve thinking outside the box, as well as education. With careful personal reflection, specialized coaching exercises, and a unique approach that has helped me help thousands of people, I can help you make transformational change.
